Richard Hunt
Originally born a Philistine among the Utahns, Richard heard the first drones of his arts wake up call when a friend read aloud Allen Ginsberg’s “America” during a small-in-size-but-heavy-on-the-Bohemianism house party sometime in the late 90’s (by the way, if anyone remembers when this was, please give me a call). Then, in summer 2002, he had life richly drummed into him during a two week long workshop/arts festival at CSU Summer Arts. Immediately afterwards, realizing fully his love of the arts, Richard abandoned his dream of earning a livable wage and began deeply engaging his artistic practices while completing undergraduate and graduate studies at CSUSM. His background includes dance, theater, creative writing, and hitting things with sticks for make sound. Eventually, his urges to make big noise won out as Richard devoted most of his artistic energies to creating/performing music/poetry with the odd phenomenon known as Elevated, playing jazz and Afro-Cuban and Brazilian folklore and carnival music, and finding ways to make music out of household objects, walls, desks, and (much to the chagrin of his father’s fiancé) the dinner table. Richard also considers himself, a humorist, philosopher, and aspiring fool.
